Collin Dowdy

Collin is just another college grad who realized how much real life gets in the way of video games. So in a valiant effort to avoid real life, Collin is taking a step beyond just watching and playing video games and is now writing about what he plays. He enjoys RPGs, strategy/grand strategy, platformers and story/puzzle games. Outside of video games, Collin goes to work and plays on his 3DS or world builds. He's always watching Twitch. It's a wonderful life.

With an efficient combat system, robust and far-reaching interactions with NPC’s, Tyranny is a game not to be missed. The myriad of choices you have and the different ways that the game can be experienced lend a high level of replayability. The well-defined yet flexible character creation system allows you to experiment on the fly an remain effective. Best of all is how developed the cultures of Terratus are and how visible the differences between them are.

A well polished, strategy/tower defense geared towards player-created content. With its huge array of tools available, and a robust player base, Particle Fleet: Emergence is a great pick up for anyone looking for a game to sink multiple hours into.

Zenith is one of those rare games that combines a bunch of great attributes and a few awful ones but still comes out like a hundred bucks. Nothing “bad” about this game really hinders it and it could be seen as part of the charm.

From the music, to the aesthetics, to the world itself, everything breathes with passion and creativity and the updates only promise to bring more of Windscape to life. You know that feeling when you see something for the first time that excites you to explore more?

The work put into the history is wonderfully written and both writers, Malcolm Pierce and Jenny Gibbons, have done a fantastic job of giving this game life. Look into this game if you are into story games/visual novels.

The experience of actually surviving Antarctica in a realistic simulation affords Near Death a sense of immersion that few entertainment mediums can achieve. With the exceptional visuals and damn near, if not perfect audio, Near Death is a game that is worth the price in money and time. Pick it up, turn on your flashlight, and don’t stop until you’re inside.

I hope that Codex Worlds improves from where they started. I’d recommend Infinium Strike to anyone who enjoys arcade style defense games because that fits this game better than PC tower defense. It’s fun for a few hours, but after you experience everything and try to push it higher, it grows dull.

INSIDE is a wonderful experience and I would recommend it if you can see yourself enjoying a sacrifice in gameplay for a memorable journey, with a bit of “WTF did I just do” thrown in for good measure.

The aesthetics were a real charm for me, and I especially liked lazily exploring, finding a great ramp to jump off and seconds later being in the air. Despite being short, it has a lot to offer. If you enjoy an open-world racing-type game, then Defunct is definitely something you should check out.

While it is pricey, the game is solid. I’ll admit I am a fan of grinding and wandering the dungeons looking for stuff to kill kept me up much later than I should have been. With incredibly satisfying boss fights, gorgeous character art and a wide range of strategies, there is a lot to experience in Sword City.

While I have always been a gamer, what attracted me to PC gaming was the ability to modify the games you played. My first experience modding video games were with TES III Morrowind, and though my time was limited, I knew I had discovered something great. The ability to add, subtract or change content completely altered my perspective on how to play games.
