Dual Universe Pre-Alpha Release Announced

August 23, 2017 Written by

Independent game developer Novaquark announced today it has almost completed the first critical phase of development of its flagship MMO title, Dual Universe, and happy to report that the Pre-Alpha version will be released on September 30th, 2017.

$7.4 Million Total Funding? Vive le Kickstarter.

Thanks to the support of its community, Dual Universe became the 3rd most funded video game on Kickstarter last year. Access to this first playable version of Dual Universe will be limited to Kickstarter and crowdfunding backers that have pledged at Gold Founder level and above, prior September 7th.

“We are very excited and impatient to get our first players inside Dual Universe. We still have much work to do, so we just renamed the access into “Pre-Alpha” instead of “Alpha”, but we did not want to delay it, as it's very important for us and the community in terms of timing to receive early feedback”, explained JC Baillie, CEO at Novaquark

Dual Universe, Straight from the Devs

Dual Universe is a new type of massively-multiplayer online experience: it takes place in a vast Sci-Fi universe, focusing on emergent gameplay and content building, with player-driven in-game economy, politics, trade and warfare. The vision for Dual Universe is to create the first virtual online civilization.

At the heart of Dual Universe is a truly innovative proprietary technology, which was developed to lay the foundations of the game. The CSSC (continuous single-shard cluster) manages one single universe with potentially millions of people interacting in it at the same time. A multi-scale voxel engine enables players to physically modify the world; dig a hole, carve up a mountain or build anything they want, from space ships to orbital stations, at any scale they desire.

Novaquark is building a virtual world environment where they hope millions of people will be able to live exciting collective adventures within a vibrant and emergent universe where everything is possible. The company aims at creating a new form of entertainment, where participants are free to create their own stories and environment.

  • Next Up Hero Early Access Review

Although Next Up Hero is only entering early-access, it looks to have a promising future ahead of it. The gameplay may feel awkward with a keyboard and mouse, but using a third-party controller or the addition of cursor based aim/shooting would remedy that quickly. As it sits, the game does not feel as impossibly difficult as the developers want it to feel, but it has tons of potential to become an extremely challenging game. The aesthetics of the game are on point, and the RPG feel was done perfectly with enough twists to make it feel unique. With a strong development team, and plenty of community feedback, Next Up Hero has the potential to become a top indie game for 2018 upon its final release.

  • Medieval Kingdom Wars Early Access

Medieval Kingdom Wars is a live action RTS with a heavy emphasis on siege battles. Despite added features it feels like a reskinned Medieval Total War 2, although the developers promise a new look at the RTS genre. In their defense, they have been great at updating Medieval Kingdom Wars and incorporating player suggestions, so it’s worth keeping an eye on as it continues through early access before its full release in mid 2018.

  • ARENA GODS Early Access Review

Welcome to the ARENA.... GODS, a title where you use anything and everything at your disposal to beat, slice, smash, stab, and pummel your way to victory. There are no fancy controls or tech skills you need to learn to be proficient at this game: you run, you attack, you roll. Sometimes you win; more often than not, you die. There is nothing keeping you playing in terms of story — because it does not have one — and while the gameplay is simple and fun, it is still simple, meaning that once you have played a few matches, you have experienced all that the Early Access title has to offer.
