New Skirmish Mode and Battleboard Mission, Improved UI and Art, Viking Archer character and Oil Bombs.

Indie development team Playwood Project today announced that Wartile, its medieval real time strategy game played out on digital diorama-themed Battle boards, gets its first major content update today in the form of Adventure Pack 0.5.

This latest update and content package is considerably bigger than 0.4.6.0 and represents the core of the feedback and work we’ve been doing on Wartile since Early Access,” said Michael Rud Jakobsen, Founder and Creative Director of Playwood Project.

This Adventure Pack also introduces a new skirmish mode that we’re very excited to reveal with a whole new Battleboard, in addition to a new mission titled ‘Thors Wrath’, updated UI and reworked art for the card system, as we strive  to continually enhance the overall player experience.

In addition to the new ‘Trail of Tyr’ skirmish game mode which will test players’ combat prowess against waves of attackers, Adventure Pack 0.5 adds a female Viking archer to the ranks, providing a new tactical edge to combat and a much sought after community request. ‘Thor’s Wrath’ is an exciting new mission variant with new challenges where players embark on the search for ancient relics connected to Viking Mythology in a revisit to the Heidrun Clan. Trail of Tyr now takes the available number of playable Battleboards in Wartile to 8, with more coming in forthcoming updates.

Other updates and tweaks include brand new art for Ability and Godly cards, which have been revamped with new art and coloured markings so players can distinguish them more clearly. Poisonous toad dust bombs have also been added to the player’s arsenal of deadly assets and, for those keen to get up close and personal, the Viking headbutt will allow players to stun opponents during an attack. Oil Bombs now provide a short based range attack to engage in full on Viking arson, and no Viking rampage would be complete without the healing benefits of alcohol - flasks of medieval Mead can now be consumed by your Viking to provide a small recovery to health.

A 10% discount on Steam and on the Humble Bundle store will also coincide with this latest June update.

About Wartile

Wartile is a single player and multiplayer real time tabletop inspired game for PC with a strong turn based flavor to it. The game replicates the experience of tabletop gaming but with faster, more immediate combat. Wartile’s visually intricate digital dioramas aim to introduce a dramatically impactful presence combined with a rewarding RTS combat dynamic. Players are challenged to lead a group of Viking warriors through a series of visually stunning battle boards each with its own story and lore.

Featuring single and multiplayer modes, Wartile thrusts players in hand-to-hand and ranged combat and provides players with the ability to level up and customize their figures with a variety of weapons and armor. Exploration of the highly detailed Battle Boards will also unlock items the player can utilize throughout the various quests.

Wartile introduces a unique turn based aspect to its RTS gameplay where players can add a tactical edge to their combat by utilizing Ability cards and Godly cards as their figurine gains more experience. A gentle cooldown system gives players enough time to bring ability cards into play, which will emphasize the games tactical feature as an RTS about decisive decision-making and battle board positioning. Godly cards and abilities can be assembled by the player before engaging in battle and used during combat and provide health, defense and attack boosts during challenging combat engagements.

  • Forts Review

Forts is an exceptional example of how a release can properly integrate many mechanics, from multiple genres, and get it right. The fast-paced challenge of managing multiple tasks before you’re obliterated creates a sense of urgency and an increased heart rate that you wouldn’t normally find from a title that simply leverages one of these mechanics. Buy Forts, and make a solid investment in your game library.

  • Idle Evolution Review

Idle Evolution takes a novel look at how one can develop an idle clickers, and implements the concept exceptionally well. This release also sets the stage for future idle titles, and sets the bar rather high; Idle Evolution arguably heralds the dawn of a new era for this genre.

  • Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III Review

Dawn of War III is very a solid foundation for the future of the franchise, but it lacks fresh flavor. The expansions to this title are sure to add races, storylines, and mechanics that are simultaneously new and nostalgic, but this initial release is somewhat bare-bones.

  • Antihero Preview

Antihero is fairly well balanced and the mechanics are solid, but there just isn’t enough of it yet to make it stand out. It definitely has potential to entertain with its funny-yet-dark art and play styles, but so far it lacks any sort of story or variety. While I have high hopes for this title, we will just have to wait and see if it lives up to its potential.

  • Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III Beta Review

Dawn of War 3, by Relic Entertainment, is a worthy successor to the first two installments in the series. While it struggles to implement the grimdark theme of Warhammer lore visually, the title manages to reference the theme through its elite units. The heroes and doctrines a player chooses before a multiplayer battle offer the possibility to customize strategy and develop individual playstyle.

  • A Rose in The Twilight Review

A Rose in The Twilight is a visually stunning yet straightforward puzzle-platformer with a macabre atmosphere and an adorable main character. The storyline and the dialogue tend to fall short, but with unique game mechanics and beautiful design, lovers of the genre can enjoy the delightful characters while testing their mettle on the challenging puzzles of this title.
