As the main antagonist in Agony, The Red Goddess plays a significant role in Agony story, and her personality makes her the most terrifying entity that players will ever encounter in the game. She might be seen as an innocent, beautiful woman, but this makes her the deadliest enemy that player can meet in the world full of agony and terror.

Rather than try and make a quick buck out of cheap thrills, Dynamic Pixels and tinyBuild took the popular trope of hide-and-seek horror and twisted it into something new and creative.  There is a great game buried here, as long as the development studio fixes the problems currently plaguing Hello Neighbor...  And if they can manage to really polish it, then the horror genre has much innovation to offer.

The concept is great and the execution is far from bad, but there is room for improvement. The maps are rich and make each game feel incredibly singular and flustered in a different way. But, the weapons feel weak and movements feel awkward. There’s much potential and excitement to be had in Deceit, and even more screams and scares.

Inmates grabs you right off the bat and starts yelling in your face: you are screaming and afraid, but at the end of it all, you’ll probably tell your friends that they need to come over and get yelled at, too. Besides the game world being well designed, and the sounds making you check over your shoulder every few minutes, the creativity, the puzzles, and the story offer an experience that is to die for.

Dreamy yet disturbing, Cherrymochi’s Tokyo Dark keeps its crosshair leveled at a sweet spot between Japanese visual novel and point-and-click adventure. Backed by beautifully illustrated environments and an eclectic soundtrack, Tokyo Dark gives the impression of having been carefully crafted; the creators were thoughtful in how they integrated different elements to evoke a striking ambiance. Featuring supernatural cults, dark family secrets, kawaii cat maids that wax existential and a protagonist who speaks primarily in ellipses, the game nails narrative but misses the mark on a pointless stat system.

Today brings a double whammy of SCORN news, with the first ever uncut gameplay trailer giving a real taste of what lies in store, plus the Kickstarter campaign now live and exclusive supporter demo coming September 22nd. The Kickstarter is being launched to give the team the resources they need to fully realize their nightmare-inducing vision for SCORN, with the first part of the game, entitled DASEIN, to be released in 2018.

Publisher Iceberg Interactive and developer Davit Andreasyan announced Inmates, a new psychological horror game with puzzle elements for PC. In Inmates, you must discover the truth behind your confinement and discover the dark secrets of the run-down prison you find yourself in.

The same elements and design choices in Observer that make it a cerebral and provocative failed-future experience are those that prohibit satisfaction in its gameplay. Detailed world-building shines through in-game dialogue and lore, yet falls drastically short in any actual spatial embodiment of forces and institutions. The small space in which you're trapped is a quaint microcosm of Observer's world, but after rich promises of variety and exploration, it's ultimately too micro to satisfy.

Hello Neighbor is a Stealth Horror game where you sneak into your creepy neighbor's house to figure out what he's hiding in his basement. You play against an advanced self-learning AI that counters your every move.

No70: Eye of Basir is an ambitious title; while the visuals and audio are noteworthy, in the critical areas of story and gameplay, Basir is passable, not exceptional. The brief plot explores, then seems to abandon, what appeared to have been a key plot point, and, at times, it’s a bit unclear who your character even is. Issues with performance and geometry clipping, combined with some sloppy foliage and prop placement, occasionally break immersion: No70: Eye of Basir is a flawed gem with some good facets.

Perception features  an unique narrative thread, though it isn’t ground-breaking. Claustrophobic at times, Perception is at once elegant and creepy, but the title’s own core mechanic defangs any deeper sense of dread or terror it might have achieved. Perception sits comfortably in a casual gray area in terms of puzzles and story, but it offers up some solid voice work and unique, ethereal visuals. Horror fans seeking something novel, though not panic inducing, may find it worth a look.

Multiple endings and a cool stats feature translate into hours of entertainment. With beautiful graphics, an intense, fluid soundtrack, and relatively straightforward gameplay, Conarium is a different horror title.

Developer Zoetrope Interactive and publisher Iceberg Interactive are delighted to announce that their Lovecraftian Horror game Conarium, will release June 6th on PC. The game will be available through Steam and other digital retailers, with an SRP of $19.99. A brand new 4K launch trailer, that will lead you to the brink of madness and chill you to the core, has also been revealed.

Starbreeze together with Behaviour Digital, released a new Chapter for Dead by Daylight, titled “Spark of Madness”. The chapter’s new Killer is the Doctor - a former employee of a secret government black site who excelled at extracting information using the most twisted experimental interrogation methods. He uses electroshock therapy to make Survivors go insane, causing them to doubt everything around them. The new environment is an ever changing version of the facility in which he terrifies his victims.

With Prey,the developer Arkane Studios has built on the proven success of its stealth shooters. The gameplay discourages a head-on approach, slowing down the pace of the action. However, the frustration of having to hide instead of fighting enemies is remedied by excellent graphic and sound design, a strong RPG element, and the possibility to gather resources and build useful devices. An additional perk is the inventive writing, which manages an immersive, haunting atmosphere.

Little Nightmares is short, but it’s complete. Artwork is beautiful, haunting, and horrible is Six’s fate when she gets caught. Don’t let the words “puzzle platformer” draw you away if you aren’t a fan of the genre. This is a memorable title you should not pass, a remarkable cocktail of psychological spirits and immersive gameplay.

Roots of Insanity is a survival-horror FPS with plenty of creep-factor. The scary noises and the macabre visuals make for a terrifying campaign, and the lack of buffers provides a challenging atmosphere. If you want a good time killer, look no further. While there are obvious flaws, such as difficulty in combat, and balance in elements of gameplay, Roots of Insanity is replayable fun.

Although Narcosis is "the debut effort" from Honor Code, the developers boast experience with legendary AAA games, and it shows. The Honor Code team has successfully crystallized their knowledge and skills, and put together an impressive work of art indeed.

Whether you are new to the series, or just looking for a creepy game to mess with your perception of reality, Bad Dream: Coma is not one to miss. The atmosphere is dark and gritty, and the player has the option of making it darker and grittier with their decisions. There are tons of challenging puzzles and secrets to unlock, and many different avenues for the narrative to take.

Stories Untold creates a fresh new experience for anyone looking to be frightened and have a good time along the way. In this innovative title from No Code, players can relive classic horror movies and late-night television, enjoy simple, light, but intuitive gameplay, and discover a spine-tingling story that’s guaranteed to keep them on edge long after they’ve finished playing.

Resident Evil 7 is as near to perfection within its genre, and its legacy, as any game I have ever had the pleasure of reviewing; it is a must-buy, especially for loyalists of the franchise. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy, and help all of us send a clear message to Capcom: More of this, please, and soon.

Red Candle Games delivers horror as poignant as it is piercing, showcasing for the international game community the horrors of authoritarian communism. Although Detention has several points which can be improved, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts; players will walk away – or run, screaming – with a fresh, thoughtful gaming experience.

As much as I wanted to recommend Don't Chat With Strangers, your time and money are better spent elsewhere. Accumulating Steam Achievements which are, essentially, a scrapbook of the many ways in which Lucy killed you, is undeniably fun. Sadly, these aren't enough to make the title shine: Don't Chat With Strangers is another retro, point-and-click adventure with much novelty and a great premise to begin with, yet it ultimately fails as a puzzle horror game.

Yomawari uses your sense of sight and sound to plunge you into a haunted town and an underlying story of love that you won’t want to miss. The only real question is: Are you brave enough to take on the night alone?

Take my review with a grain of salt. Through the Woods has mostly positive reviews on Steam, but for a twenty dollar price tag, I cannot recommend it. It gets a below average score from me, yet I'll close with this: for a first project, Antagonist shows much promise, and I'm anxious to see what it does next.

I’d love to see them add a few more maps, and even some more monster types, but as it stands White Noise 2 Early Access has a great foundation. It’s ready to play, providing fantastic teamwork and plenty of scares, and I will certainly be coaxing more friends into playing with me in the near future.

The Bunker is a heart-pounding journey through the mind of a lone survivor as he struggles to come to grips with a complicated past. It does an excellent job at drawing attention to what many have cast off as a forgotten genre in gaming.  It's unlike any other experience you'll have.

Deceiving camera angles, unpredictable enemy AI, and an inconsistent difficulty spike with puzzles make the promise of an enjoyable indie horror game with unique mechanics unattainable in its current state. 

Due to its similarity to Five Nights at Freddy's, CASE Animatronics has put itself in the position of having some big shoes to fill. Although it has some rough edges, it more than delivers. For ten bucks, I think it's well-worth seeing the surprises CASE: Animatronics has in store. Last Level: please don't eat me anymore.

The experience of actually surviving Antarctica in a realistic simulation affords Near Death a sense of immersion that few entertainment mediums can achieve. With the exceptional visuals and damn near, if not perfect audio, Near Death is a game that is worth the price in money and time. Pick it up, turn on your flashlight, and don’t stop until you’re inside.

There’s essentially no story-line to speak of, and Francisca is just a stationary, ghostly model of a character that flickers in and out of existence; it’s only creepy because it’s supposed to be. And while this is a cheap addition to any jump-scare Steam library, it needs more content, more scares, and more motivation to survive if it wants to be a contender with bigger, better FNAF rip-offs.

INSIDE is a wonderful experience and I would recommend it if you can see yourself enjoying a sacrifice in gameplay for a memorable journey, with a bit of “WTF did I just do” thrown in for good measure.

Behaviour Interactive has overdone itself with giving us Dead by Daylight. Every time I play my heart pumps and I feel the thrill of being scared or frightened. Everyone should at the very least give it a try. You will be scared, frightened, thrilled, excited, and have other sudden emotional changes as you are hounded down by randoms serial killers online. Enjoy.

Whether or not you are familiar with the Zero Escape series, Zero Time Dilemma goes over and above what one can expect an interactive story to deliver. This isn’t a detached puzzle game that moves from one challenge to the next. This is a profound experience that stays with its players well after the credits roll.

DOOM will have gamers on the edge of their seats, as they will want to close the gateway to Hell and save Earth. Load your guns, replenish your health, check your armor, and buckle up - you are about to enter an inferno that would make Dante shit his pants. Welcome back, time to take out the trash – this time by using a shotgun on Mars. Fight like Hell? Hell yes.

Song of Horror is an old school inspired, third person survival horror, evocative of the eternal fear of what cannot be understood. Take control of up to 16 characters who have been dragged, throughout time, into a story for which they are not prepared.

I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I fired up STASIS for the first time. Based on the limited materials I had previously been exposed to, I assumed it was a standard isometric shooter. I was dead wrong. Its roots are deep in the point-and-click exploration genre of yesteryear, complete with pre-rendered 3D backgrounds and character animations. WASD is not welcome here. Time is NOT an issue. Brain Activity IS required.
