Subdivision Infinity DX provides the feeling of truly being a pilot in the vast, breathtaking scope of outer space and offers a fun, albeit short and simple experience.
Despite issues with AI and a level of complexity that will likely frustrate new players, Age of Wonders: Planetfall is a well-rounded experience with stunning visuals and extensive replay value.
Despite being grindy at times, Tech Corp. manages to be an addictive experience if you can ignore all the bugs.
Those that enjoy sandbox “chaos simulators” will do well to check out American Fugitive. While the story is somewhat predictable and abrupt, it presents an overall enjoyable experience.
This unique simulation still suffers from certain aches and pains that we have all come to know and loathe from Early Access titles, but it’s a solid concept paired with great attention to detail and a surprisingly in-depth simulation make for a stunning (if currently unpolished) submarine simulator.
Tropico 6 involves a huge time investment and a steep learning curve, but it is a solid entry in the management/sim genre.
Don't expect much from the visuals, music, or story in while True: learn() and simply appreciate it for its puzzles.
This entry in the Just Cause series has taken itself too seriously, sucking the fun out of what should be a blast.
The Long Dark inspires a different, more primal kind of fear than a lot of other survival entries. Bye-bye zombies, hello hypothermia.
Underworld Ascendant is surprisingly unpolished and actively difficult to play. Without patches addressing the myriad bugs present in the current product, this one is a hard pass.
Building, creating, destroying, self-detonating, designing, and restarting. Nimbatus is an Early Access space-drone design simulator that’s fulfilling to anyone who has a brain for engineering or adventurous curiosity. To put it lightly, my experience with Nimbatus has been one for the books of failure, and has required me to watch countless tutorial videos on how to make a drone that can even be stable enough to maneuver a planet surface. Having said that, my enjoyment in watching my failed little creations of destruction is great enough that I won’t be stopping anytime soon.
The Crew 2 is an overly ambitious racing entry that misses the mark. Despite getting the feeling of cars and other vehicles right, optimization problems and a lifeless map keep this title from really being anything special.
Conan Exiles is a survival title that successfully immerses you in Robert E. Howard’s brutal Conan setting, but delivers weak combat impact.
MEMORIES OF MARS (MoM) is an early access action/survival game by Limbic Entertainment and 505 Games. MoM is a relatively new addition to the Steam Store and is currently receiving regular updates. As the name suggests, the title is set in outer space and has the player explore and colonize the Red Planet.
Cefore is an early access, physics-based puzzler with great potential and a comprehensive level editor to round out the experience after the completion of the main campaign. Fans of the genre should give this title at least a passing glance.
Managing a farm is its own reward in Farm Manager 2018, so don’t expect anything beyond that. If that’s what you’re looking for, then this title won’t disappoint.
Ward off ravenous cannibals and... maybe… search for your son in The Forest, a brilliant open-world survival title that really and truly lets you play how you want to play.
E-Line Media, creators of Never Alone, has announced its latest project - The Endless Mission. The Endless Mission is a sandbox-style creation game that takes players on a hero’s journey through a rich narrative world where they develop the power and opportunity to craft games and experiences of their own in the Unity engine - all while challenging forces larger than themselves.
Stormworks: Build and Rescue has everything you look for in a casual (but not too casual) title. It expands on well-worn mechanics to provide a familiar but deep experience. Building is interesting and can be as simple or complicated as you’d like, with the logic system providing a wealth of possibilities. Gameplay is straightforward while still being challenging. It’s great as it stands in Early Access, so you can expect a truly great experience from the final product.
