With an interesting mix of surreal elements and an ethereal, haunting soundtrack, Gone with the Demon is also that unfinished project released prematurely even for Early Access. The South Korean indie is marred by sluggish mechanics, a bare-bones narrative, and unbalanced combat; but considering some innovative mechanics and the features promised by BoyAndWitch, including a comprehensive story and balancing fixes, there is some potential for casual greatness.
The primary objective of DRtC is simple: the player, controlling a character with a random skill specialization (from dog lover to shotgunner) and personality quirk (will they be paranoid or calm?), along with a potential partner character go on a road trip from Florida to Canada.
The overall feeling I get from 90 Minute Fever is that the developers are nowhere near what could be accomplished. Of course, the game is in alpha at the moment, but the obfuscation of the details regarding mechanics, organization, and overall construction of the game menus bar it from getting a pass.
At its core, Ether One is a puzzler with a strange inventory system and sometimes-obfuscated puzzles, but it has the look and feel of the ‘walking simulator’ games like Dear Esther and Gone Home. However, the developers, White Paper Studios, have created a marvelous world to explore. Above all else, they made a game about a terrifying disease without trivializing it, or getting it entirely wrong.
The name ‘Rocket Fist’ makes it sound like it’s going to be quite the mechanical romp involving closed hands powered by engines…and boy, does it live up to its exciting name.
When PC gamers are asked what the 'classic' games on the platform are, there may be some mixed results, but standouts will occur. If you ask 100 people what their 5 classics are, it can be safely assumed that games like Half-Life, DOOM, and a few others will be in more than half. These games are the ones that innovated, connected with the audience, and are still relevant in some capacity to this day.
