Pharaoh Rebirth+ found a fantastic equilibrium. It distilled plenty of notable metroidvania concepts into a fun collection. The thought that went into the details and atmosphere is noticeable. Playing a cursed bunny who transverses through an Egyptian landscape is as fun as the pitch makes it sound. This isn't an indie title that's trying something new; instead, the delicacies from previous eras of explorative platformers have been compiled for our consumption. It's is a great compilation of what we love about this particular genre, and acts as a perfect introduction for those who've never played metroidvanias.
This is a fun title overall with fast frenetic gameplay (especially if you have buddies over), it is easy to pick up and play, and with more unlockables on the horizon there should be more content to keep players coming back. If it can deliver on all of its promises I will no longer need to be playing my emulator anymore.
If you want a good time killer with a heavy grinding aspect, Royal Heroes is perfect for you. It's fun growing an army from just a small band of troops to a huge, sizeable force. But it’s going to take some time to pull that off.
A long, long time ago (maybe)…in a galaxy far, far away (possibly)…comes the latest and greatest way to waste time without breaking the bank…
Gamy Tycoon 2 is a challenging learning experience in a subject that we all enjoy that poses as a game – what’s not to like? This title provides hours of entertainment for a good price, and for a game within a game, that’s a great value. Be patient with this title – it’s worth it!
Once upon a time in a N64 era textured land far way, lived the lynx Inna and her cubs. One particularly yellow pixelated cub that looked like none of the others fed into curious temptation and wandered away. Lost, and not a bit worried, the little cub playfully explores the vast jagged rendered forests of 3D sprites to find its way back to the others to live happily ever after.
I cannot find any gripes with Stikbold. You will laugh, clap, dance, and yell with enjoyment as you control the losers, Bjorn and Jerome, on their slow rise to become champions. The ball is in your court, time to go pick it up as fast as you can and throw!
Nelly Cootalot: The Fowl Fleet has some of the best voice acting I have found in a point-&-click adventure. It’s extremely compelling, and arguably one of the best elements of this chapter in Nelly’s ongoing saga. There’s tremendous variety in the character voices, and the line delivery is witty and endearing – it’s certainly one of my favorite aspects of the The Fowl Fleet.
Moon Hunters’ fast battles, quick completion, and vast story will keep any action adventurer happy for hours. In-depth mythology, efficiently fun gameplay, and four person multiplayer makes Moon Hunters an unmistakably great experience.
Although no raw innovation is involved, Bunker Punks delivers a solid shooter experience. It's a test of PvE skill in a simple space. There is a risk and return for every playing method, which capitalizes on replay value. Being greedy and rash will lead to repetition, but going slow and steady will be frustrating. It's up to you to strike a balance.
The new Hitman, following after Absolution, goes back to its open-ended roots, while still working to spin a tale alongside the contracts. It starts off with a tutorial that's supposed to be a prequel to the entire series, while the rest is a sequel to the existing series.
The battles will make you seriously strategize and the complete European coalition teaming up against you will make you sympathize a bit with the Emperor of Elba. This is definitely a thinking (wo)man’s title - no History books required. Vive la France!
Definitely worth a try; whether you’re interested in perfecting score mechanics or just wrecking some awesome looking pixelly monsters. Hopefully this is evidence of more arcade ports to Steam, because Deathsmiles has got me hankering to go waste six hours on Progear.
Is Tom Clancy’s The Division worth playing? Absolutely. As someone who finds themselves somewhere in between collector and completionist, I enjoyed the balance achieved between things to do/find on the world map that were aside the main story or progression path. I’d find myself going through an area, completing everything in that zone in accordance with my level, but never feeling overwhelmed.
I would wait until they at least lowered the price and added more content.
I am disappointed with Far Cry Primal, and rate it a 6 out of 10. I had to trudge through far too much muck to find bits of satisfaction. It's playable, but has no substance to act as backbone. There are no new challenges for people to face. No story presents itself for an audience to get engaged. No advancements are in sight, making this title thoroughly undistinguished.
Overall, Feelings Adrift is not a scary game. The visuals do create the potential for some great scares, but the enemy designs and stock sound effects make it difficult for...
If you’re the type of gamer who likes their experience to feel like work, to feel like management, like another job, then Factorio might be for you. For myself, however, Factorio doesn’t necessarily do anything new or otherwise exciting.
The world ended a long time ago, I’m here surviving each day even though there is nothing left to fight for.
There are titles that come along from time to time that make us question whether the ever-churning machine of AAA titles that push the graphical envelope further and further are necessary.
Bus Simulator 16 unintentionally and comically illustrates that an enjoyable title doesn’t need to be revolutionary to be considered good - I just wish I hadn’t spent several hours of my life to come to this conclusion.
If you're a die hard 40k fanatic who will simply consume anything Games Workshop related, refuse to play a physical copy of Relic, and see no real value to engaging your brain for as much as 4 or 5 hours at a time, then Talisman: The Horus Heresy is for you!
I absolutely recommend you try this out, as it currently is sitting at the top of my indie shooter list, and is something I intend to keep trying to master, until I too am super hot.
The Town of Light explores host of horrifying topics: human suffering, mental illness, the history of treatment of mental illness, and even war. This is not your typical horror game. In fact, it’s not a horror game at all. The Town of Light is purely psychological, devoid of supernatural occurrences or other frightening clichés.
I was disappointed in Heaven’s Hope. The concept is unique and the artwork and music are simply wonderful. There’s even a fast travel option in-game to make it easier to go back and forth between locations, something other games in the genre should use. There are some creative elements here, but so much holds it back from standing out among the crowd.
Unending Galaxy is an outer space, empire building sim brought to us by indie developer Anarkis Gaming.
Battlestation Harbinger is an enjoyable experience, and became more fun as I kept going and experimented more. I can’t call it my favorite game, but I am glad to have bought it and happily gave it to a friend of mine as a birthday gift. It’s a solid 70: worth the money as a quality time waster but not an engrossing experience.
If learning not to starve people in cozy environments with upbeat music is your cup of tea, then at its not- unreasonable price, Life in Bunker might just be the city-building quick fix you've been looking for, just be sure not to eat the moleman meat.
All in all, I cannot stress how much I feel like everyone should pick up and play Disgaea, as long as they don't absolutely hate JRPGs or strategy RPGs. The entire series is damn good, and Nippon Ichi has given us the opportunity to experience this in a fresh way on our glorious PCs.
In the end, Michonne Episode 1 feels too short, too shallow, and too eager to put pressure on the player. I think it would have benefited from a bit of extra downtime to let me get a feel for things, and get close to the characters. After all, i don't play something that's supposed to be all about a story, only to have it skip over most of the depth in favor of qtes and timed conversations.
I know what I have to do—kill all of these horrific fiends and survive.
I definitely think this one is worth picking up on sale, even if I wouldn’t recommend it at the $19.99 USD price tag. If you can grab this under for a quarter of that price, or pick it up in an Indie Game Bundle somewhere, I absolutely would go for it. I don’t regret my decision to plunge into the world of Firewatch, I simply wish the resolution would have been far, far more satisfying; I feel this video game was one that hovered right on the cusp of being a spellbinding example of interactive, immersive storytelling, only to fall just short of the prize.
It may never get its due in the mainstream consciousness as a tremendously important title, but Hitman: GO The Definitive Edition deserves to be considered a classic, as it is perhaps the best thing to come from mobile gaming in the medium's history to date.
For an indie title that’s under $10, Gurgamoth will definitely please those players looking for something simple to play with friends for a night of trash talking and bloody, chaotic competition. Sadly, the overly simplistic gameplay, lack of depth and actual variety left my Elder God plenty hungry after quickly devouring this shallow, bloody pool of an appetizer.
No matter how much I may criticize the faults, and the faults certainly aren't insignificant, Rise of the Tomb Raider is without a doubt extremely fun. Fans of the first Tomb Raider will find more of what they loved. Rise shines brightest when players adopt the full John Rambo mindset, and embrace the balls to the walls action available. I found myself having much more fun when I intentionally ignored stealth and played like I was in a John Woo movie. Rise of the Tomb Raider is a fast-paced, action-packed feast for the senses that sets a new benchmark for technical excellence. Just don't expect many original concepts or challenges, as Lara “John Rambo” Croft brutally murders hundreds of baddies en route to a very thrilling final chapter.
Xcom 2 is a well designed, mechanically diverse tactics game that will hold your attention for many, many hours. The “just one more turn... “ feeling is strong with this one. When your soldiers are dying, and the aliens are closing in, steel yourself and remember – Suffer not the alien to live!
Helldivers™ might be the most enthralling game I have had the joy to play since Space Engineers (for very different reasons, of course). To put it shortly, this is a very strong title with incredible, innovative gameplay elements, solid multiplayer, and a smooth yet visceral game-feel to rival the best in the business.
12 is better than 6 is rife with all of these aspects, drawing on the wonder of our youth and emblazoning in a medium never before seen outside of a Napoleon Dynamite film, Blue Ink on paper.
Star Wars Battlefront feels hollow. Hollow to the point that I wonder if the upcoming DLC will be able to revitalize it, and hollow to the point that there may be no one out there playing the game to even enjoy the new content at all. For $60, this game is unacceptably short on content and replayability.
It really is that good ladies and gentlemen. The hype is mostly real, and I’m sure this one will go down in the books as a piece of greatness from Bethesda. Honestly, it truly is. Now, stop reading this review, and go buy it. Seriously, go. Get your wallet out, and go to Steam, and pick the bloody game up, now! Or go to GameStop, BestBuy, Amazon, whatever. I don’t care where, just go get it and start playing it.
All in All Black Ops 3 is a worthy contender of your hard earned dollars, and it gets a 9 out of 10. Treyarch has called it a labor of love, and for once, it shows.
WARNING! Assault Cactus Android is not for wussies. It’s for self-proclaimed bad asses who relish in the delectable misadventures of a cadre of curiously charming sugary sweet femme-bots…
I wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I fired up STASIS for the first time. Based on the limited materials I had previously been exposed to, I assumed it was a standard isometric shooter. I was dead wrong. Its roots are deep in the point-and-click exploration genre of yesteryear, complete with pre-rendered 3D backgrounds and character animations. WASD is not welcome here. Time is NOT an issue. Brain Activity IS required.
Like many Final Fantasy games, Type-O is long in explanation and drenched in overwrought backstory, but after clearing the first few hours, the game’s pulse starts to regulate, and a deep, action RPG is revealed. At $29.99 on Steam, its a steal, and anyone who is a fan of action RPGs, particularly jRPGs, will surely find a rewarding and fun game in Type-0.
Close Order has the chops to be a great arcade style shmup assuming Raconteur is given the proper time (and space) to address the aforementioned issues. Its a fun little title, and If they manage to pull it off, I for one will be the first one to give it another go…
King's Quest Chapter 1: A Knight to Remember Review
Written by Adam WheelerIf King's Quest sounds familiar to you, it's probably because you played it on your dad's computer at some point in the 80's. Or there's small chance that you're dad, and you've kept up with PC games as you march into your golden years.
If you want to get in on the Killing Floor 2 alpha, I'd be a fool to discourage you. At $30, you are not getting a tremendous amount of content at this particular time. What you do get is access to the framework of what I believe will one day be a fantastic co-op shooter; one that scratches an itch that's been untouched since I played the Left 4 Dead series. They've got a hefty amount of content to release before they can start entering L4D territory, but I just can't wait to see what they do with such a fun foundation.
If you have to wait for a Steam sale, I really can't blame you, but Evolve is a game that offers some thrills that you can't find many other places, so I have trouble telling people not to buy it. I want this game to survive and build on the excellent gameplay framework they've set up, but we must wait and see if the developers at Turtle Rock Studios and 2K want to make something great or milk it till it's dry. Time will tell.
Heroes of the Storm does not try to be tremendously complex, nor does it want the player to feel that they've immediately figured out all the nuances of gameplay. Blizzard has a long history of taking a popular genre, finding the three to five most fun things about it, then creating a gameplay experience that fully envelops the player in those facets of the game. They did it with the MMO by making WoW, they did it with the action RPG in the Diablo series, and they're currently doing it with online card games in Hearthstone. So far, this is one hell of an effort to do the same thing to the MOBA genre.
