Rad Rodgers: World One Review

Written by

As an original 80s gamer, Rad Rodgers hits all the happy places. It has elements of the perfect classic platformer, sidelong references to my favorite old games, but still has the advantages of a modern, original game. Rad Rodgers is fantastically fun, and I’m looking forward to adding the next episode to my collection.

The Little Acre Review

Written by

The Little Acre is appropriately named because it is short and has very few areas to explore. The story and plot are really interesting and the animations make you fall in love with the characters and world. The fairytale elements keep you smiling and happy the entire time you’re playing, but the smiles are cut way too short by the length of the game. You fall in love with the story and become so attached that it’s a huge letdown when it ends so abruptly.

Indie Game Sim Review

Written by

Overall, Indie Game Sim is worth getting, especially for fans of platformer and/or simulation style titles, but a couple of things could be tweaked to allow for a more realistic experience. It is pretty innovative, as I have not seen other games that allow you to create something that is interactive and can be played and even sold, which is the cornerstone of this title.

Maize Review

Written by

The goal of Maize is simply to make you laugh. It is refreshingly hilarious and provides a randomly unique movie-quality storyline that you can’t get anywhere else. If you need a break from life, or from other serious games, this is just the laugh that you need. You will enter a world of idiots, where you reign supreme.

3D Chess Review

Written by

Overall, 3D Chess has some cool ideas and nice visuals, but the lack of audio, online compatibility, and difficulty settings prevent it from standing out and making it a chess game to return to, over and over again. I give 3D Chess a 6 out of 10.

Redie Review

Written by

Redie's music, game environment, sound effects, and physics work together to create an engaging, enjoyable universe. The gameplay is hard, but the feeling of finally beating a difficult level is pure euphoria. Lastly, the mastery system adds a lot of replayability to the game for players who are either exceptionally skilled or masochistic.

Quern - Undying Thoughts Review

Written by

All in all, Quern is the ultimate scavenger hunt, and perfect for any exploring puzzle master. It is great for its genre and definitely a must have if you love brainteasers, exploration, and uncovering mysteries. Zadbox Entertainment very elegantly integrated cryptic puzzles into a well-designed and even more cryptic world that any challenge seeker would love to explore for hours on end. My advice to you… leave no stone unturned and CLICK EVERYTHING. Good luck!

ICARUS.1 Review

Written by

Icarus.1 has more potential than what is actually realized. That being said, the developers overall, have done a good job. The story is a great idea, but as such a common theme in the sci-fi genre, I feel a little more could have been done to set Icarus.1 apart and really provide the player with a more unique experience. However, the mechanics, sound and graphics of the Icarus.1 really tie it all in to make it an experience worth purchasing..

Chilie Review

Written by

The story is goofy and enjoyable for a young one, but the gameplay in between is far too frustrating and uncontrolled to provide any semblance of a meaningful challenge such a title should offer. Perhaps a future update will help set matters straight, but until then, we can always look forward to whatever Beckoning Cat releases next.

Cursed Castilla (Maldita Castilla EX) Review

Written by

Cursed Castilla is, objectively speaking, a good game, even if you are not a fan of the genre. I would recommend one thing, however, much to the chagrin of OPNoobs Executive Producer Shane Gamez: play this game with a controller. "That's one of the things that really pisses me off… If I'm on a PC…" fumed Shane, "…I want my keyboard, I want my mouse," chimed Fred (Brizzi), capping off Shane's sentiment.

Beholder Review

Written by

I would highly recommend beholder because the art and music style perfectly captures the story. The struggle between the decisions is one that causes real struggle and emotional turmoil. This may not be a game you come back to over and over, but you’re going to sink your time into a few play throughs to try and make the ‘right’ decisions, whatever they may be.

Tales Review

Written by

While it has a few problems, Tales is a great game. The puzzles are both challenging and fun. The different environments keep the game interesting as the main character travels from book to book. There is depth in both the storyline and puzzles that mean this isn’t one of those games that can be finished in a single session and leaves the player wondering what they paid for. This is a game you come back to and find yourself thinking about after you’ve left.

Party Hard Review

Written by

Make your way through large parties killing everybody without getting caught, all so you can get some sleep. Fun concept but it becomes repetitive and chore-like. Still, if you're missing out on Dishonored 2 and want to sneak around killing folk on a bargain, maybe pick this up and see how it does ya.

Super Rad Raygun Review

Written by

Super Rad Raygun has many things and is a great reminder of the old days, for those old enough to have had a Nintendo Gameboy during the 90’s. Slick retro style. Easy mechanics. Great references, if you're capable of picking them up, and a nice soundtrack. Expect mix ups with downloads, which would probably be fixed in a future update. Yet even with the nostalgia, it's hard to decide if I like it - or not.

Small Radios Big Televisions Review

Written by

Small Radios Big Televisions is a thoroughly exuberant experience. Sadly, lackluster gameplay and a very brief completion time work against the narrative, quickly leaving you to ruminate on your own. As much as I’d love to recommend this title, I cannot at this time. Perhaps it’ll be easier to do so at the next Steam Sale.

Silence Review

Written by

The world that is created by Silence is magical, mystical, and everything a gamer could want. It keeps you exploring for days and you feel as if you are a part of this alternate universe. I highly recommend playing Silence and bet that you will become caught up in this exciting tale of good and evil, life and death.

The Revenge of Johnny Bonasera Review

Neptune Flux Review

Written by

Neptune’s Flux feels like an incomplete demo, or at least a project that’s still in beta testing, but the current status is completed. It’s a fast game to play through, which isn’t necessarily a deal-breaker on its own, but on top of that the landscape is boring and the storyline is lukewarm. I fear this story-driven saga will fail to be memorable past those initial two hours of playtime.

Yesterday Origins Review

Written by

My experience with Yesterday Origins as a whole was wonderfully enjoyable, to say the least. Interesting characters living in curious locales, all interacting throughout different time periods help Yesterday Origins tell a mature story full of compelling twists and copious amounts of dark humor. Thought provoking puzzles add to the appeal, mixing great gameplay with great storytelling. Pendulo Studios is back!

Tyranny Review

Written by

With an efficient combat system, robust and far-reaching interactions with NPC’s, Tyranny is a game not to be missed. The myriad of choices you have and the different ways that the game can be experienced lend a high level of replayability. The well-defined yet flexible character creation system allows you to experiment on the fly an remain effective. Best of all is how developed the cultures of Terratus are and how visible the differences between them are.

Super Dungeon Bros Review

Written by

This action-packed “Bros before Foes” brawler is a good addition to any skull-busting, head-banging rocker’s library. Although it does have areas of improvement and potentially unintended setbacks, Super Dungeon Bros brings together bro-tastic characters with many difficulties and modes to form a fun game that is everlasting and enjoyable for days.

Heroes of Issachar Early Access Review

Written by

I wanted to like this game, mostly because I find myself drawn to tedious city-building games and like to support developers, but this was nothing like what I could have anticipated. It is also strange to me that the game would seemingly go decrease in quality over the last 3 years, which is the only assumption I can make after watching the aforementioned video. Heroes of Issachar is bad enough that it is making me rethink any reviews I have ever done, because I don’t trust my rating system anymore.

hack_me Early Access Review

At this point in time, hack_me has too little substance and too short of a playthrough to warrant a purchase. That being said, I will be watching the updates and periodically check-in for some improvements. Hopefully, we'll get a more polished product by the official release.

Talewind Review

Written by

Talewind is an ode to classic platformers with a challenging difficulty, straightforward controls, and diverse level routes, all packaged in a beautiful art style. Regular updates and free content help this title to stay fresh and exciting without changing the formula unnecessarily, further increasing the value of the meager 10 dollar price tag.

King Machine Review

Written by

King Machine had a new and interesting idea, but it failed to execute it properly.  FastRam Design attempted to create a title that would innovate upon multiple styles of games, but did not make it intuitive to its users.  I still give King Machine kudos for attempting to be something different; the industry progresses when people are creating rather than copying.

Secrets of Magic: The Book of Spells Review

Written by

The Beard in the Mirror Review

Written by

I fell in love with The Beard in the Mirror. As an homage to a much-loved genre, it succeeds stupendously. Its main weakness is its shortness. Although the story is complete and not rushed, it leaves a lot of untapped potential. That said, if DLC or a sequel came out, I’d be one of the first to buy.

Through the Woods Review

Written by

Take my review with a grain of salt. Through the Woods has mostly positive reviews on Steam, but for a twenty dollar price tag, I cannot recommend it. It gets a below average score from me, yet I'll close with this: for a first project, Antagonist shows much promise, and I'm anxious to see what it does next.

I’d love to see them add a few more maps, and even some more monster types, but as it stands White Noise 2 Early Access has a great foundation. The Jackbox Party Pack 3 Review

Written by

A solid collection of virtual board/card games with Trivia Murder Party being the leader of the pack. Kyurinaga’s Revenge Review

Written by

While I wouldn’t say Kyurinaga’s Revenge is top-notch, it is good for people that are simply looking for a platform game and don’t need any background whatsoever on why they are being chased by giant cauliflowers or attacked by a crazy cucumber overlord. In the end, I was even impressed by the accurate use of Japanese language and culture during dialogues, specifically regarding the names of the vegetables. However, if RECO Technology could fix some of the flaws listed, incorporated the story better, and improved battling modes, I believe Kyurinaga’s Revenge could be great.

Infinite Air with Mark McMorris Review

Written by

At the end of the day, Infinite Air with Mark McMorris is a sports simulation title. You know who you are, and here is the title you’ve been waiting for.

Negligee Review

Written by

Unfortunately, despite quality personification, Negligee's plot and dialogue fall flat. The key to a compelling narrative is introducing problems for the characters to solve. The issues facing Negligee’s characters are painfully mundane. As a result, the plot flops without ever finding a meaningful hook. There are long stretches of stagnation while the protagonist vacillates between hesitancy and insecurity. Instead of excited, I found myself irritated and impatient, quick-clicking through conversations in the hopes of getting to the interesting parts. Sadly, by the time the game delivered, I was too bored to care.

Demolish & Build Company 2017 Review

Written by

D&B Co. is an air sandwich.  It lives up to the PlayWay S.A. name in that it is anonymous, faceless. There is a stinging lack of purpose to it all, more so than what you would naturally expect going into a game about knocking down and putting-up walls. In striving to cut the fat out of the game, they removed most of the meat, too. Like the psychology experiment, you will find yourself pressing a button over and over again for momentary, meaningless entertainment. And like the experiment, it’s probably not in your best interest to feed your mind the mental equivalent of potato chips.

AIRHEART - Tales of Broken Wings Early Access

Written by

As a Twin-Stick Shooter with crafting features, AIRHEART - The Tales of Broken Wings is a beautiful game with much potential. In its current state of Early Access, there are balancing issues between loadouts, too little focus on the advertised objective that is the act of fishing, and too short of a leveling curve regarding upgrades and crafting. If Blindflug Studios addresses these shortcomings, then the full release could be a hit. I'm hopeful: they clearly have the talent and the skills.

Ships 2017 Review

Written by

Ships 2017 is incomplete at best. I can see some work went into it, and I appreciate how hard it is even to make a crappy game, but it's still unacceptable to take folks' money under circumstances like this. If they fix the game so it's playable, I'll consider revising my review, but as it stands, this game is not playable, so I give it a two.

Farabel Review

Written by

Farabel is a fair effort by FroGames. While the release was not completely successful conveying the uncommon angle it adopted, I’m not convinced the twist is doable. To the extent that it can be done, Farabel succeeded, though the gambit did not suffice of itself to excuse some of the weaknesses of the release. The experience is an interesting playthrough, though unlike the time travelling protagonists, you likely won’t travel back and spend the time to replay the story.

The folks at Fakt Software have created a winner in the puzzle genre. Written by

Frog Climbers is a very simple game, but it's all you need for a social night of fun with friends. Scrap Garden - The Day Before Review

Written by

Overall, I enjoyed my brief time with The Day Before, and if you do too, consider buying Scrap Garden, as there’s much more to enjoy with extra variation and substance to bite into. If Scrap Garden is a meal, consider The Day Before to be the complementary chips and salsa. They’re free, they’re great, but it’s not gonna fill you up unless you really try.

Karma. Incarnation 1 Review

Written by

As much as I wanted to enjoy this game, Karma. Incarnation 1 feels lifeless. The story is severely lacking, gameplay is thin, and even at $8.99, it isn't worth buying. AuraLab and Other Kind Games could have put a lot more work into it, and with the talent they have, perhaps they would have had a hit. This, though, feels rushed out and unfinished, and that's a shame in light of what it could have been.

BUTCHER Review

Written by

BUTCHER is a polished, extremely well-built 2D shooter that wears its difficulty on its sleeve. It's an absolute blast to play, but players may find difficulty adjusting to the incredible challenges that await them. If you have the patience to withstand this level of gameplay, you’ll be prepared to feel the rush of adrenaline when completing one of BUTCHER’s insanely hard levels. It isn't Dark Soulism, or Hotline Miamian excellence, but it comes darn close. The game looks great and plays great, and I most def recommend it to anyone looking for some brutal, arcade action.

Industry Manager: Future Technologies Review

Written by

Industry Manager - Future Technologies wasn’t developed for broad accessibility, it was developed to scratch the itch that simulation gamers have, an itch that is not scratched easily.

King’s Quest breathes fresh life into the fantasy adventure puzzle genre by reviving the story of a decades-old series. Although it doesn’t have the same feel as the traditional Sierra games, it stands on its own and does not violate the original. In terms of story-line, Chapter 4 starts strong but loses its emotional impact quickly. The level is puzzle-heavy and lacks some of the adventurings from previous chapters. The gameplay is solid, though, and remains fun and enjoyable throughout.

Powargrid Review

Written by

Powagrid succeeds in making you think you have a chance; it pulls you pack into missions even after you’ve been blown to smithereens more times than you care to count. This is what you want in a game: a sense of “I’m going to win this time; I think I’ve got it.”

illumine Review

Written by

The experience is hard to put into words. It’s spiritual, it's personal. If you can handle all of that, then go buy illumine. $5.99 on Steam. Give it a shot. You won’t regret it. At face value, this is a simple game with a minimalistic style in which the player controls letters and navigates the world, trying to avoid enemy AI while collecting as many books as possible. If you die, you’re reborn in a procedurally generated level.

Madrobot X Review

Written by

Madrobot X fails to mix up the genre in any meaningful way, but it doesn’t have to. It’s a cheap game that plays well and is worth checking out for anyone who is a fan of old arcade shoot ‘em ups. If you’ve got a buck and a few minutes to kill, you might as well go for it.

Loved it! Gal*Gun: Double Peace may be a shocker and an average port, but it's still a great game. I'd go as far as saying it's one of the best ones I've played in a while, and I would even recommend a purchase at full price. The replayability and fun gameplay are worth it.

Syndrome Review

Written by

A sweaty-palmed, gut-clenchingly terrifying game. It capitalizes on body-horror, mechanophobia, and the fear of small, dark spaces. While the core gameplay is solid, the game does have issues which take away from its awesomeness. Despite this, Syndrome makes a strong addition to the survival horror genre.

Ortus Arena Review

Children of a Dead Earth Review

Written by

While I’m hard pressed to say the $25.00 price tag is something it lives up to at the current level of graphical and audio polish, I can see the mechanical strength of the title making it worth the investment for a particular sort. At the very least, I would certainly count myself among them.

Slayer Shock Review

Written by

A nostalgic, Buffy-worthy trek into the past, with fairly challenging supernatural creatures, fun weapons, and a decent amount of strategy to be had. Mad Father Review

Written by

Mad Father has truly earned its spot in the RPG Maker horror hall of fame. An unforgettable classic that isn’t afraid to change to appease a more modern audience, the story of Aya and her father will forever stay with me. This game is also not for the light of heart. There are scenes of extremely graphic gore and body horror, so if you’re sensitive to all of that it’s probably best for you to just stay away.

Fix the problems and release a finished product. Commit to your adorable Dyno and his adventures. Klang Review

Written by

Jack of all trades, master of none is a perfect summation of Klang. The combination of rhythm and platforming is an interesting concept that may have a future, but currently is just not quite there yet. Unique visuals and an active soundtrack help distinguish Klang from other titles, but generally ok platforming mixed with well done rhythm gaming create an awkward hodgepodge of a title that underperforms as a whole.

The Uncertain: Episode 1 - The Last Quiet Day Review

Written by

I can tell ComonGames has worked very hard here, but there are these little problems that keep cropping up, detracting from an otherwise intriguing story. After having to play several parts over again, I personally can't get past all the hunt and click. Even though it's great for it's genre, I found it unbearably slow. But I'm into racing games lately, so perhaps I'm biased. I'm going to try to put my personal feelings aside here, and give it a generous six because the graphics really are amazing.

The Bunker is a heart-pounding journey through the mind of a lone survivor as he struggles to come to grips with a complicated past. It does an excellent job at drawing attention to what many have cast off as a forgotten genre in gaming.  It's unlike any other experience you'll have.

Escape the Past Review

Written by

If you enjoy escape-themed games, Escape the Past won’t disappoint. Other escape games will allow you to strain your brain and solve puzzles, however the experience here is what sells it. I suppose if I could change one thing, I would add more levels, as there are only currently four chapters. It certainly left me wanting more.

Goo Saga - HD Edition Review

Written by

Goo Saga is a fantastic puzzle adventure platformer. The world is beautiful, the gameplay is interesting, and while it does have some minor flaws, they do not outshine this stellar game.

Armello - The Usurpers Hero Pack Review

Written by

The world of Armello is incredibly charming, and Elyssia, Ghor, Magma, and Sargon look sophisticated, complex, and utterly charming. I suppose the $9.99 USD price tag could a bit high for a DLC, the base game being at $19.99 USD on Steam, but it remains indisputable: The Usurpers Hero Pack is a valuable addition to my Armello addiction.

Agenda Review

Written by

Agenda is polished, visually appealing, well presented, and the soundtrack has a lovely, understated James Bond feel to it. If you’re looking for a sophisticated game that allows you to gradually take over the world, this one would make for a worthy addition to your Steam library.

Intensive Exposure Review

Written by

The gameplay isn’t deep, the content isn’t even slightly politically-correct, and there aren’t enough levels. That said, Intensive Exposure is a stupidly-fun game that delivers exactly what it promises, with a few great surprise laughs along the way. Definitely worth it.

Vex Review

Written by

For its price, VEX is well worth the buy. 45 levels of good fun that will leave you surprised at what can still be done in the overexploited realm of indie arcade platformers. A strong title that does an excellent job at revitalizing classic game mechanics with a minimalistic approach and refreshing visual style.

Zenith Review

Written by

Zenith is one of those rare games that combines a bunch of great attributes and a few awful ones but still comes out like a hundred bucks. Nothing “bad” about this game really hinders it and it could be seen as part of the charm.

SPAERA Early Access Review

Written by

When judging an Early Access game, you have to judge it on its potential as much as on what’s already there, and SPAERA is already off to a great start, with all signs pointing toward an even better game in the future. Depending on your tolerance for Early Access, it may or may not be worth getting now, but you must check this one out when it releases.

Fans of the Undertale aesthetics would enjoy this charming point-and-click adventure. While it's on the short side, it’s totally worth it. It’s charming and hilarious, so check it out!

RIVE is nothing new but tons of fun. It reads like a love letter to retro lovers of the twin-stick shooter, and I would gladly sign at the bottom. If you're feeling nostalgic for old space shooters, check this one out.

Momonga Pinball Adventures Review

Written by

Theress a lot to be enjoyed in the short adventure of Momo, and to be clear, this is not a bad game. It's just too short to be enjoyed the way it could. Everything from the charming atmosphere to the enjoyable arcade makes Momonga a title worth checking out. The abrupt ending leaves a lot to be desired and it's a shame. This game could be the Japanese flying squirrel pinball adventure title we all long for.

Tadpole Treble Review

Written by

Tadpole Treble is a deceptively difficult, music-driven adventure and side-scroller, complete with a level editor mode, which combines cute graphics, an impressive music score, and a surprisingly high amount of challenge to create a unique experience.

Project Highrise Review

Written by

I have loved my time in Project Highrise, designing skyscrapers and keeping my buildings running smoothly, and that says a lot from someone who isn’t proficient at turning a profit and keeping things working orderly! If you’re a fan of simulation and strategy, not to mention the ability to create custom content and upload it into the Steam Workshop, then I highly recommend this title as a fantastic addition to your time-management library.

Mystery Chronicle: One Way Heroics Review

Written by

As it currently stands, Mystery Chronicles is a weak remaster of the original, but it's possible that we may see more coming from Spike Chunsoft in this game. Many players who experienced problems like consistent and constant crashing were voicing their concerns and the game was patched in no time to address them. The end verdict is: if you want a smooth roguelike RPG, play the original.

The backstory surrounding the mysterious events you find yourself in are beautifully thought out, with motives and perspectives changing your own thoughts and opinions of what happened on the Nautilus. If you enjoy a good story, do yourself a favor and have a little chat with Kaizen.

DOGOS Review

Written by

DOGOS is a great idea, a great prospect, but the execution is not as well implemented nor improved as it could have been. Hopefully OPQAM’s next venture into the multi-directional shooter will prove more fruitful.

Divided We Fall Early Access Review

Rough around the edges but a satisfying game if you're into real-time strategy. Get in on the ground floor and watch this become an understated classic. If nothing else, you'll need the time to practice.

Calm Down, Stalin Review

Written by

Calm Down, Stalin puts players in touch with history by allowing them to experience the sweaty-palmed, gut-wrenching stress of being a despotic ruler of a country on the brink of war. That you have the unfortunate handicap of only being able to control one clumsy, flailing arm at a time adds to the fun.

The Garden Review

Written by

There’s certainly a lot of work that could be done to spruce The Garden up further, like a graphics overall and some more compelling sound effects, but it’s not a bad little game to tinker around with when you want something fairly low-key and casual. I only had one incident where the program crashed, but I that indicates there could be a risk for ongoing bugs and glitches, so please consider this a cautionary recommendation heavy on the quantifiers.
